Sedation Services

Sedation Services at Northwest Urology
At Northwest Urology, we understand that certain urologic procedures can cause anxiety or discomfort. That’s why we offer sedation services to ensure a more comfortable and stress-free experience for our patients.

One of the most effective sedation options we offer is nitrous oxide, commonly known as “laughing gas.” This safe, opioid-free, and non-addictive gas helps patients relax without inducing unconsciousness. It allows patients to remain awake, responsive, and in control while reducing pain, anxiety, and discomfort.

We offer sedation services for a range of urologic procedures, including:

  • Prostate Biopsy – A procedure to collect prostate tissue samples for further examination.
  • Cystoscopy – A procedure involving passage of a thin flexible camera (a cystoscope) through the urethra and into the bladder. Cystoscopy may be performed for direct evaluation of the bladder and urethra and sometimes involves biopsy of the bladder wall or removal of a ureteral stent following kidney stone surgery.
  • Vasectomy – A short, minimally invasive sterilization procedure for men.
  • UroLift® or Rezūm™procedures – Minimally invasive procedures for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH)

Pro-Nox™ is a proven, safe sedation system that delivers a 50/50 mix of nitrous oxide and oxygen. This self-administered sedation option allows patients to inhale as needed, providing immediate relief from pain and anxiety during urologic treatments.

How Does Pro-Nox™ Work?

  • Patients control their own sedation with a demand valve system.
  • It provides rapid relief from pain and anxiety.
  • The effects wear off quickly, allowing patients to resume normal activities shortly after their procedure.
  • Safe and FDA-Approved – Used in over 5,500 medical practices across the U.S. and Canada.
  • No General Anesthesia Required – Patients remain awake and responsive.
  • Rapid Recovery – Effects wear off in 10-15 minutes, allowing patients to drive home.
  • Effective Pain & Anxiety Relief – Provides an 85% reduction in pain and discomfort for most patients.
